Second car park to have EV chargers installed

Work is due to start next week at a second car park in Wallingford as part of the Park and Charge Electric Vehicle charging scheme.

The project proposes a total of up to 62 new charging points in car parks across the South Oxfordshire district.

Engineers are scheduled to begin installing electric chargers at Goldsmith’s Lane car park in Wallingford next week. This will involve several bays being fenced off temporarily and some short-term disruption to the car park.

This follows the work at Cattlemarket  car park announced last week. We will announce the work at the other car parks shortly. All work is due to be completed by the end of March.

This project is part of a county-wide scheme to install hundreds of EV charging points in council-owned car parks. More info here.

Councillor Sue Cooper, South Oxfordshire District Council Cabinet member for Environment, Climate Change and Nature Recovery, said: “The work is continuing apace to install EV chargers across South Oxfordshire, with the other car parks all pencilled in for work to start over the next few weeks. This should mean residents and visitors will be able to use the new chargers in the not too distant future.”

The Park and Charge scheme allows residents without off-street parking to park overnight and charge up using a ‘fast’ 7 – 22kw EV charging point. The chargers will also provide much needed battery top-ups to commuters and visitors during the daytime.
